Early deadline for South Jetty; city hall, banks close Thursday

Folks in Port Aransas will pause to give thanks on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday Nov. 24.

Because the holiday falls on the South Jetty’s usual publication day, the newspaper will go to press a day early. The deadline for news, advertising and letters to the editor will be 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, and pages will go to the printer that evening. The paper will be on newsstands late Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 22, and in mailboxes on Wednesday morning, Nov. 23.

The usual deadline of noon on Monday will resume on Nov. 28.

The South Jetty office will close at noon Wednesday, and remain closed until Monday morning at 9. To contact the news department, e-mail southjetty@centurytel.net or, in an emergency, call (361) 749-4861. Any breaking news will be posted at www.portasouthjetty.com. Subscribers and non-subscribers to the online edition may sign up to get e-mail notices when breaking news is posted by going to the Web site. Click on Get News Updates at the top left of the page, and follow the instructions.

City hall will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24 and 25. No trash will be collected on Thanksgiving Day, one of three days, including Christmas and New Year’s, when trash is not collected. Since Christmas and New Year’s fall on Sunday this year, trash collection will not be impacted.

Both banks in Port Aransas, American Bank and Value- Bank Texas, will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

On duty throughout the holiday, as usual, will be police and emergency medical services personnel.
