The new structure was built just northwest of the marina’s restroom/storage building that was built in 2009. That’s about 100 yards east of the boat ramps, where the old fish house is located.
Deputy City Manager Dave Parsons said the new structure was built further from the ramps to avoid congestion in that area, as folks put boats in the water and take them out.
The old fish house will be demolished, Parsons said. The city’s master plan calls for installing covered seating where the old fish house is, but that project hasn’t been scheduled yet, he said.
The new fish house is about 250 square feet in size – about four times the size of the current fish house.
Island Construction was the low bidder on the project, with a bid of $94,668. Some $67,650 of the cost has been funded by a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department grant. The rest came from the city’s harbor fund, which brings in money from income including boat slip fees.
