The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8967 is winding up its 2011 holiday season collection drive for troops stationed in Afghanistan. Volunteers will be stationed at the Family Center IGA, 418 S. Alister St., on Sunday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., for the final collection day of the drive.

Items sought for the collection include non-perishable food, such as jerky, canned meat and fruit, nuts, cookies and non-melting candy; travel size toiletries, such as shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and foot powder; and personal items, such as writing paper, pens, AA and AAA batteries and small games.

All items should be small since they will most likely be carried in a backpack. No pork, aerosol cans, glass or opened containers will be accepted.

The care packages will be sent for arrival by Christmas.

Donations, including money to be used to purchase additional supplies to send, also may be dropped off at the Post, 311 N. Alister St.
