New calendar really cool!

MARY HENKEL JUDSON

We’ve added a new feature to our Web site, www.portasouthjetty.com.

It’s called the Complete Island Calendar. You’ll see the blue and gold logo at the top right of the homepage.

Click on it, and you can find out what’s going on in Port Aransas on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

The calendar includes everything from the weekly meetings of the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs, the daily meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous, the monthly, guided beach walks to the Old Town Festival, Port A Art About and the annual Fall Back Festival.

You can view it by the day, the week or the month.

Listings are open to nonprofit organizations for events and activities in Port Aransas.

If your event or activity is not listed, please call Ginger Massey at (361) 749- 5131, or e-mail her at subscriptions@port asouthjetty.com. She’ll take care of it. Also, if there is a mistake in one of the listings, please let us know, and we’ll get it corrected (and if there is a mistake, Ginger didn’t do it. I did.)

This new calendar goes beyond the Island agenda that you see every week on Page 2A of the South Jetty. It takes you through the rest of the year and into next year. So, it’s not too early to let us know when your 2012 event is going to be held.

The calendar is just one of the neat features of our Web site. Another one is the archives. If you want to look up something, just go to our Front Page and, where you see Search Archives, type in the key words that will lead you to a list of stories and photos that contain those words. Or, if you want to look through a specific edition of the paper, just click on the word Archives in “Search Archives.” That will take you to a weekly listing of our editions that go back to Aug. 10, 2006, when we launched the site. Click on the issue you want to look at, and there you’ll have it. Of course, if you’re not a subscriber, you won’t be able to look at the most current two editions of the paper.

Another neat feature is what we call the “marketplace.” It’s at the top of the front page and features the various categories of ads that appear in the paper. So, if your ad is in the print edition, it will be placed online in the correct category. For example, if someone wants to look at real estate ads, they simply click on Port Aransas/Mustang Island Real Estate, and all the real estate ads in the current edition show up. A viewer can click on your ad, and it will come up full size. If your Web address is included in your ad, the viewer can click on your ad and go straight to your Web site.

Our Web site has more neat features – too much to go into in one column. You can explore for yourself at www.portasouthjetty.com.

Enjoy!
