Mari- anna N. Kiesel, 57, died Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, at her home in San Antonio. She owned a second home in Port Aransas.

Kiesel was born March 10, 1954 in Midwest City, Okla., to Marie Pickens and Air Force Col. Howard D. Rant. The family lived in Nagoya and Tokyo, Japan from 1957 to 1960, following a brief period in San Antonio. Upon returning to the U.S., the family lived in North Springfield, Va. until 1965, before finally settling in San Antonio.

She graduated from Lee High School in 1972, where she met her husband Mike Kiesel.

Kiesel was a homemaker and enjoyed staying in her Port Aransas condo, spending time fishing and beach combing. She spent many hours cooking, gardening and sewing, as well as participating in various activities at Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio with her children.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Patricia E. Rant; and father-in-law, John M. Kiesel.

She is survived by her husband; son, Jeremy Kiesel; daughter, Jennifer Kiesel; brother Howard Donald (Becky) Rant, Jr; brother, James Edward Rant; cousin, Deanna Pickens McCollum; niece, Amy (Mike) Miller and children; nephews, Josh and Kyle Self, Thomas Hildebrand, Taylor Castillo; mother-in-law, Diane S. Kiesel; sisters-in-law, Linda (Rick) Self, Stephanie (Juan) Castillo.

The family received friends at Concordia Lutheran Church on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
