Marlin runners were ‘on fire’ at UTSA meet
Marlin cross-country runners may well have wished that a trip to San Antonio on Saturday, Sept. 17, had been for the regional meet. On the University of Texas-San Antonio course, which will be used for the regionals, the Marlins burned up the course, with the boys coming in first and the girls third.
Coach Steve Reaves called the boys’ performance “dominant,” with five of the top six runners being from Port Aransas.
As a team, the boys scored 18 points – barely missing a perfect score.
Matt Fries and Corban Marcantel finished one-two, making it what Reaves called “a good weekend for them.”
“It was our preview of the regional course, and the kids competed very well,” Reaves said. “There were a couple of the top boys’ teams that were not there that I wanted to race against, but that’s how it goes.”
Reaves said several Lady Marlins were fighting head colds, so they weren’t at 100 percent. Nevertheless, “I am very proud of how they stepped up and competed anyway,” he said.
“Overall, it was a very successful weekend for Port Aransas cross country,”
