Anglers on Wheels to hold encore event
The first Anglers on Wheels in May proved so popular that a second event has been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25.
The event is a fishing opportunity for people of all ages with any type of disability, according to Barbara Blair, director. It is sponsored by Door in the Wall of San Antonio, an organization that works to provide adaptable, accessible sports for people with disabilities.
The fishing event is free, but participants should register by calling (210) 254-2310, or going to the Web site, www.ditwtexas.org or e-mailing Blair at Barbara.blair@ditwtexas.org.
Fishing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Sept. 25. The Saturday trip is full, but space is available on the Sunday trip. Fishing tackle and bait are provided. The boat leaves from Woody’s Sports Center, 136 W. Cotter Ave.
Fishing will be aboard the Island Queen II, courtesy of owner Billy Gaskins. Each participant will receive a commemorative t-shirt.
Sponsors are still needed, and may contact Blair to offer a service, merchandise or a monetary donation.
Anglers on Wheels fishing events have been offered for 15 years in the spring. The fall event is an extension of the spring event because of demand, Blair said.
