The Port Aransas Police Department issued a news release today, Monday, Aug. 22, identifying the victims of a car accident that killed two children in Port Aransas Friday.
The wreck, reported about 2:24 p.m., occurred on State Hwy. 361 near the Cinnamon Shore Development.
Eight children were riding without seatbelts in a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport when the vehicle drifted off the highway and overturned, police said.
Following is the news release issued today by Port Aransas police:

The Port Aransas Police Department has released the names of the occupants of the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero involved in the accident on highway 361 in Port Aransas, last Friday, August 19, 2011.
The police department has confirmed the names of the two children killed in the accident as Jacob Ricarte, 8 y/o, and Jelena Robles, 2 y/o.
All of the occupants in the vehicle were from San Antonio. Seven of the ten occupants were related to Jeanette Castanon (31), an adult passenger in the vehicle. The driver, 33-year-old Ruben Renteria was identified as a friend of Ms. Castanon. The tenth occupant, Alejandra Rodriguez was identified as a family friend.
The police department declined to comment on the nature of the injuries, except to say that all but one of the survivors have been treated and released from area hospitals.
The investigation is continuing and the police department will not comment on the evidence or the potential charges until the investigation is completed.
