Physical exams required for athletes

Potential Port Aransas Marlins athletes must get physical exams done tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 5, if they want to have the exam done at pre-school prices, and cross-country runners will need those exams when practice starts Monday, Aug. 8.

Dr. Bruce Russell, 600 Cut-off Road, will perform girls’ physicals from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and boys’ physicals from 3 to 5 p.m., athletic director Steve Reaves said. Cost for the exam is $30, payable at the time of the exam.

All incoming ninth- and 11th-graders who plan to take part in athletics must have a physical, Reaves said.

“Also, anybody who checks ‘yes’ on questions 1 through 6 on the medical history form must have an annual physical,” Reaves said. He said forms are available at the high school or can be downloaded from the UIL Web site at www.uiltexas.org/files/athletics/forms/preparticipation physical-evaluation. pdf .

Students may elect to have their physicals done by their own doctor, but still must take the UIL form with them, he said. Payment arrangements must be made with the student’s doctor.

Cross country runners will report to the Port Aransas High School gym at 6:15 a.m. Monday; the first practice will start at 6:30 a.m., Reaves said.

“Make sure you have all your paperwork filled out and ready to turn in,” Reaves reminded runners.

If you have questions, call Reaves at 749-1208.
