Askew
David Henry Askew Jr. of Port Aransas died Sunday, July 31, 2011, from lung cancer.
Askew was born Jan. 18, 1951, to Minnie Alice (Smith) and David Henry Askew, and grew up in Fort Worth.
He graduated from high school in Hurst prior to meeting and marrying Sarah “Sallie” Steen in Arlington, where the couple raised their daughter KC.
The family moved to Port Aransas in 1994, and Askew was hired as a deckhand at Fisherman’s Wharf, working his way up to captain.
In the years preceeding his retirement, Askew worked in building maintenance at Sandcastle Condominiums, also in Port Aransas.
Askew enjoyed outdoor adventures, including camping, hiking, hunting, boating and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends, attending concerts and traveling. He was a member of the Parrot Heads of Port Aransas.
In addition to his wife and daughter, KC Campbell, Askew is survived by his son- in- law, Daniel Campbell; grandchildren, Zoe Lee, Gabriella Page and Samuel David Campbell; a sister, Susie Flanagan of Haltom City; a brother, Chuck Storm (Kitty) of Celina; a nephew, Chris Dunlop; and numerous cousins.
A register book and memory table will be set up from 2-5 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 4, at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. at Trinity-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Port Aransas with Father Doug Schwert officiating.
