Children’s musical starts today
Children of all ages are invited to cool their heels and watch a summer youth production at the Port Aransas Community Theatre, 2327 St. Hwy. 361.
The morale-boosting musical production “Dear Edwina, Junior” opens today, Thursday, July 7.
The live performance stars area youth, ages seven to 16, and is directed by Ken Yarbrough.
Originally set to run through July 23, performances are now scheduled to run Thursday through Saturday, July 7-16, at 7:30 p.m., with two matinee performances on Sunday, July 10, at 2:30 p.m. and July 17, at 4 p.m.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for kids and are available online at the theatre’s Web site, www.portaransascommunitytheater.com and following the link for obtaining tickets, or at the box office.
The play centers around 13- year old Edwina Spoonapple who feels inadequate compared to her talented siblings. Yet Edwina has many talents, including leadership, singing and advising, and she combines all of them by directing musicals out of her garage. Her musicals are based on answers to letters written to her by neighborhood kids who need advice. She helps them with advice orchestrated through songs and dances. One of the main themes of the production is Edwina’s desire to prove her talent in the Kalamazoo “Advice-APalooza Festival.” This is all going on while Edwina’s love interest, Scott, is trying to win her over. But, since Edwina is so concerned about her show, she doesn’t care about Scott. In the end she is momentarily swept away and Scott wins her heart.
