Two Marlins picked for All-State team

TYLER PATE FIRST TEAM 2B TYLER PATE FIRST TEAM 2B Two Port Aransas baseball players have been named to the All-State team by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, the association announced on Tuesday, June 14.

Tyler Pate, a Marlin sophomore, was named first-team second baseman. Andrew Groseclose, a junior, made third-team pitcher.

Pate and Groseclose were among those given much of the credit by coach Brian Flack for helping vault the Marlins team to the regional quarterfinals, a first this year for the Marlins. They were beaten at the regional level by Johnson City .

The 2011 Marlins ended the season with a 27-6 record and are already looking toward the 2012 season, when both Pate and Groseclose will presumably be back.

“The kids are already making plans to defend their district championship and go farther in the playoffs than we did this year,” Flack said after the regional quarter-finals.
