Face-off
Voters are invited to come to city hall tonight, Thursday, April 28, to listen to candidates for Place 1 on the Port Aransas City Council present their cases for election.
Candidates’ Night, a voter education forum, will begin at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers at city hall, 710 W. Ave. A.
Candidates should arrive at the chambers before 5:30 p.m., at which time they will receive questions for which they will have 30 minutes to prepare three-minute responses.
Only one race on the May 14 ballot is contested, and that is for Place 1 between incumbent Keith Donley and challenger Monte Sirmon.
Each candidate will be allowed five minutes to make an opening statement. That will be followed by a timed question-and-answer session moderated by South Jetty editor Mary Henkel Judson.
The forum will conclude with each candidate giving a five-minute closing statement.
Voters unable to attend the forum in person may watch the program on the Cobridge Communications cable TV public access channel.
Candidates’ Night is sponsored by the South Jetty for candidates in contested races.
