STAFF PHOTO BY BEV GILBREATH The Lady Marlins turned absolutely rude as hostesses on Friday, April 5, snubbing their noses at Ben Bolt and handing the visitors an 18-1 defeat.

It also vaulted the Lady Marlins into a three-way tie for first place in District 32- A.

Highlight of the game -- at least for the Port Aransas girls -- was a 12-run second inning. Ben Bolt’s only score came in the second.

Marian Smith connected with an inside-the-park homer, bringing in four runs including hers, and Savannah Ortiz also hit an inside-thepark home run although with nobody on base.

Ortiz pitched two innings to start the rout and Bakar Sackschewsky finished up; the game ended after four innings under a UIL rule that allows games to close if one team is 10 or more runs ahead.

Ortiz struck out five during her tenure on the mound, while Sackschewsky fanned four.

“The girls played the way they were supposed to,” coach Steve Reaves said. “Too often, you see teams play down to the competition, but I’m real proud of my girls’ staying focused and taking care of business.”
