Falls City stops Marlins

Coach Brian Flack said the Marlins once again failed to take the diamond in a mood to play baseball, but they only lost to Falls City by one run, 8-9, in a game Friday, April 1, at Falls City.

Jake Roberts (two for four) and Tyler Pate (one for three with a sacrifice) were the Marlins hitters; the Port Aransas boys racked up only three hits in scoring their eight runs.

However, they also racked up four errors. That also was one fewer than Falls City, who picked up four mistakes in seven innings.

The Marlins held the Beavers scoreless for the first two innings, but the hosts picked up at least one run per inning for the rest of the game.

Pate drew the loss, pitching 5 1/3 innings and allowing five hits with nine runs, one of which was earned. He struck out four and walked six.

Andrew Groseclose took over in the sixth inning, striking out two.
