Fines to be waived on past-due books
Have some overdue library books that you may have forgotten about or just didn’t want to pay the fine?
In the hope of getting back library materials that are long over due, the Ellis Memorial Library will offer amnesty on all books, videos and audio items returned to the library during the week of Tuesday- Saturday, April 12-16. All fines accrued for the returned overdue items will be excused only during the amnesty period.
Library Director Kathy Caldwell said many people do not realize there is maximum charge on overdue items and, in fear of a large fine, they often do not return overdue items to the library.
April 10-16 also is National Library Week. Library staff encourages anyone who does not have a library card to stop by and get one.
Library cards are free to all Texas residents and $10 for non-residents. There is no charge to check out videos, audios, books and magazines.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children to get their own library card. The library will have some complimentary gifts for the kids during the week
Caldwell said, “Please take advantage of this incredible public service! “
