Tourney set in memory of Guerra
A fishing tournament scheduled for Saturday, April 30, in Port Aransas, will honor the memory of dedicated angler and San Antonio newspaper columnist Carlos Guerra, and will provide scholarships for communications students at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The tournament will start at 8 a.m. at Fisherman’s Wharf. Boats will take contestants to the north jetty on St. Joseph Island and return them at the end of the tourney, 3:30 p.m.
A dinner and awards ceremony is set for 6 p.m. at the Sandcastle Condominium Conference Center, 800 Sand Castle Dr.
Entrants should mention the tournament when registering, sponsors said.
Tournament classes are heaviest redfish, heaviest speckled trout and heaviest fish of any other species, with one prize in each class.
Registration deadline is April 20; registration is $100 per angler. Register online at www.facebook.com/carlosguerraday, and go to www.facebook.com/ CGuerra- Scholarship for more information on the scholarship itself.
Guerra died last year while vacationing in Port Aransas.
