Chapel tours are scheduled
Those who enjoy visiting historic structures may want to be a part of one of the tours of the Little Chapel on the Hill to be held this weekend.
Tours of the chapel will be available tomorrow and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19, at 10 a.m.
Reservations are required and should be made by visiting the Port Aransas Museum, 408 Brundrett, or calling 749-3800. Leave a name and telephone number to get on the tour list. The tour is limited to 10 people. The museum offers the tours on the first and third Friday and Saturday of each month.
The museum is open Thursday through Saturday, from 1 to 5 p.m.
The chapel tour takes approximately an hour, with a short orientation at the museum beforehand. Members of the tour group should plan to be at the museum 10 minutes before tour times.
Toursare thanks to the generosity of Frank Carter and David and Aubrey Carter. Frank and David are the sons of Aline Carter, for whom the chapel was built.
Built in the 1930’s, the chapel sits atop the tallest dune in Port Aransas. Carter used the chapel to treat Port Aransas children to ice cream as she shared nondenominational Bible stories.
The interior walls and ceiling are decorated with frescoes depicting the history of Christianity, by Austin artist John Cobb.
