STAFF PHOTO BY BEV GILBREATH The Lady Marlins returned home from Woodsboro frustrated on Tuesday, Jan. 11, losing a close contest 31-32 and moving to a 1-1 district record (15-9 overall).

The ladies started out trailing 8-7 in the first quarter and went into the locker room at halftime down 15-10. In the third period they made a run, outscoring the Lady Eagles 12-7 and taking a 22-22 tie into the final quarter. However, one point’s difference in that quarter meant the game.

“(The third quarter) was big because it brought some energy back into the game for us, and we were getting some easy buckets,” said coach Stephanie Cowen.

Poor decisions and shot selection crippled the girls, however, Cowen said.

“We did the job we needed to on defense by not allowing the ball into their big post, but we didn’t effectively block her out on the shot,” Cowen said.
