Lighthouse talk to kick off PAPHA winter lecture series

The Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association will kick off the 2011 Winter Lecture Series with wine and cheese in the Port Aransas Museum, 408 Brundrett Ave., at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10.

A PAPHA meeting will follow at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Center, next door. Members will vote on the two nominated candidates for the museum board: Mark Grosse and Jean Pettit.

At the meeting, PAPHA members will vote in new board members, then a lecture by museum director Rick Pratt will begin.

Pratt will speak on “It all started with the lighthouse.” A former lighthouse keeper at the Lydia Ann Lighthouse, Pratt will tell why the area built up, beginning with the lighthouse.

The lecture series will continue every two weeks through March 7, with all topics in honor of the Port Aransas centennial.

The lecture series is free and open to all.
