Mountaineering in Alaska to be discussed

Parks and Recreation Brown Bag lecture

Dick Mooers, a seven-year Winter Texan from northern New York, will discuss his adventures of mountaineering in Denali National Park at the first Brown Bag lecture of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Mooers will tell about climbing and trekking in the Alaskan preserve beginning at noon at the Port Aransas Community Center, 408 N. Alister St.

Five days after his retirement in 2001, Mooers flew to Alaska to begin his high altitude adventures. He also has hiked in the Adirondacks, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Colorado, Washington and California, and is a sea kayaker.

The Brown Bag lecture series is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring a lunch to enjoy while learning about different topics. The Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the series.
