Golf carts to parade for canned goods
Got cart?
Then join the parade of electric and gas golf carts on Wednesday, Dec. 22, to benefit less fortunate members of the community.
Cart owners and anyone who wants to rent, borrow or beg a cart for the occasion are invited to decorate their carts for the holidays and, with $5 or five cans of non-perishable food items, enter the Cans and Carts Food Drive. The canned foods and cash will be donated to the Helping Hands Food Pantry of Port Aransas.
The parade of decorated carts will start from the corner of Avenue G and Station Street next to Cars and Carts, which is the sponsor, and winds its way to Roberts Point Park. There, at the Fred Rhodes Memorial Pavilion, entertainment and refreshments donated by Miss K’s will be offered until 8 p.m.
Parade line-up is at 4:45 p.m., and the parade will start at 5 p.m. The parade route will go north on Station Street to Cotter Avenue where it will turn left onto Cotter and end at the park.
A first prize, donated by Roosevelt’s, will be awarded for the best decorated cart.
Entertainment will include performances by the Community Presbyterian Church worship team and vocalist Lili Banta, 14, in her Port Aransas debut, as well as veteran Port Aransas vocalist Alma Squillante.
Anyone who would like to perform is asked to call Jenna Banta at (817) 307-2936.
