The Lady Marlins couldn’t overcome a shortage of rebounds in Aransas Pass on Tuesday, Nov. 22, as they fell to the 3A Lady Panthers, 38-25.
The Port Aransas girls kept the game close in the early minutes, trailing only 9-8 at the half. The third quarter, however, saw an Aransas Pass shootout as the Lady Marlins were outscored, 17-8. “Rebounding really became the story of the ball game,” said coach Stephanie Cowen. “We made some adjustments and started to make a run late (in the game), but the lack of rebounds and missed free throws made it difficult to overcome.”
Even so, Tarryn Murray scored in double figures and led the Lady Marlins with 17 points. Kalani Balcom and Kelsey Ortiz followed with three and Chelsea Perez had two to round out the scoring. The loss brings the Lady Marlin varsity’s record to 4-4.
