Coach Javier Mendoza said the Thanks- giving break told on the ladies: “The girls got tired really quickly.”

Mendoza said both teams started well, but the Lady Marlins’ legs started to fail them on offense and defense.

Summer Hernandez was high scorer for the Lady Marlins with 13; Madison Ray also turned in double digits with 10. Emily Roberon, with six, and Carlie Munoz, with two, rounded out the Port Aransas scoring.

The eighth-graders now have a season record of 2-0 with a district record of 1-0.

The seventh-graders fell behind during the first half and could never work their way out of a deficit.

Melanie McCann led the scoring with six, followed by Tanai Murray with four. Ashten Snyder, Julie Johnson and Ashley Mack had two apiece.

The seventh-grade Lady Marlins have a 1-0 district record and stand at 1-1 overall.

Both teams could meet the Angels again tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 3, when the IWA Tournament opens in Corpus Christi.
