Mabel Elma Bird of Port Aransas died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010.

Bird was born July 11, 1914 in Erie, Pa. to William and Ida (Dool) Reynolds.

She moved to Port Aransas in 1979 with her husband after her retirement as an auditor for the United States Air Force in Denver, Colo.

Bird was a volunteer at the Bill Ellis Memorial Library and was involved in the Lion’s Club. She also sang in the Community Presbyterian Church choir.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 78 years, John Bird, who died Oct. 4, 2010.

She is survived by her sons, Dr. John W.C. (Evie) Bird of Port Aransas and Lt. Col. (ret.) Victor (Connie) Bird of Port Aransas; daughters, Caroline (Don) Collins of Port Aransas and Muriel (Randy) Holben of Tuscon, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
