STAFF PHOTOS BY DAN PARKER The Port Aransas Education Foundation set another money-earning record for itself with its Mardi Gras fundraising event on Friday, Oct. 1.

“Once again, I am amazed at the generosity of the Port Aransas Community,” said Wendy Moore, president of the foundation. “We had another very successful fundraiser and were able to beat our record-breaking year last year and raise over $82,000.

“Given our economic times, we think that is phenomenal and feel truly blessed by all those who help make this event such a success.”

Last’s year’s Mardi Gras earned $60,000.

This year’s sold-out event was held at the Port Aransas Civic Center. The foundation, a non-profit group, uses its money to improve education within the Port Aransas Independent School District, paying for items and programs not funded through the school district’s budget.
