The community is invited to the First Friday art reception on Oct. 1 at the Art Center for the Islands, 323 N. Alister St.

The exhibit for October will be “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” a wood, fiber and jewelry group show featuring 25 artists.

Meet the artists, socialize and enjoy the exhibit, live music and refreshments from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The exhibit will be on display with the pieces available for purchase through Friday, Oct. 29.

Also available for viewing this month will be 15 artistically painted wooden café chairs that are part of its CHAIR-I-TEE! If You Care-Buy a Chair fundraiser to be held during the Port Aransas Centennial Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 16. The chairs were donated by the historic Tarpon Inn and each one features an original design painted by an artist. The chairs will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the center during the celebration, but can be previewed at the First Friday art reception. The proceeds from the chairs will fund the center’s projects, like the Building Fund.
