Food pantry sets evening hours

The Helping Hands Food Pantry has scheduled the following evening pick-up dates for the remainder of 2010: Sept. 28, Oct. 26, Nov. 30 and Dec. 28.

The pantry will be open from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. during the scheduled dates, which occur on the last Tuesday of the month. The extended evening hours began in August to accommodate full time employees who are unable to visit the pantry during the daytime hours, Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All clients, other than full-time employees, will need to pick up food during the daytime hours.

Stationed in the Community Presbyterian Church complex at 113 S. Alister St., the pantry is a satellite of the Corpus Christi Food Bank and a joint community effort. It provides perishable and nonperishable foods, personal care items and diapers to anyone in need in Port Aransas.

The pantry serves individuals and households. Many of those assisted are children under the age of 18. The pantry strives to serve all those who qualify for assistance.

Monetary donations can be sent to Helping Hands Food Pantry, c/o Community Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 147, Port Aransas, TX 78373.
