Outboard anglers will be motoring to fertile fishing grounds for the 36th annual Outboard Fishing Tournament, slated for Friday, July 16, through Sunday, July 18, in Port Aransas.
The Port Aransas Ladies Fire Auxiliary sponsors the tournament, exclusively for boats powered by outboard motors, with all proceeds benefiting the Port Aransas Volunteer Fire Department.
Registration begins Friday, July 16, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Port Aransas Civic Center, 700 W. Ave. A. Registration festivities include boiled shrimp with chips and dip. The tournament fee is $70 for anglers who pre-register by July 15 and $75 for those registering at the door.
Late registration will be at the city harbor office in Roberts Point Park the following day from 6 to 7 a.m.
Fishing begins on Saturday and Sunday at 7 a.m. and ends both days at 3:30 p.m.
Weigh stations at the city docks will be open both days from noon until 5 p.m.
Spectators are invited to gather at the pavilion to watch the weigh-in.
Tournament spectators may purchase souvenir caps and t-shirts at the civic center on Friday, Saturday or Sunday night or at the Fred Rhodes Memorial Pavilion on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Registration fees include buffet dinners for registered anglers Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m. at the civic center. Guest tickets may be purchased for $20 each for adults, $7 and for children 6-12. Children under 6 are free.
Awards will be presented Sunday at the civic center beginning at 7 p.m.
First and second place trophies will be awarded for the largest redfish, kingfish, speckled trout, ling, dolphin, flounder, sailfish, barracuda, black fin tuna, gafftop, wahoo, Spanish mackerel, red snapper, shark, amberjack, sheepshead, black drum, pompano and marlin. Marlin and sailfish are catch and release only.
Trophies will also be awarded for hard luck, good sportsmanship and most unusual fish.
