Nixon

Deaths/Nixon Deaths/Nixon Gilbert B. Nixon, 83, of Cascade, Colo., died on June 8, 2010. He was a Winter Texan in Port Aransas. Nixon was born on Aug. 30, 1926 in Traverse City, Mich. to the late Gilbert A. and Alice L. (Berrie) Nixon.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 and later worked on the ore ships on the Great Lakes. He attended the University of Northern Michigan and the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. He was a 32nd degree mason, Lodge 400, in Newberry, Mich.

Nixon retired from the U.S.A.F. Civil Service as an architectural technician at Aerospace Defense Command.

He was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and boatman in both the Rocky Mountains and in Port Aransas.

Nixon is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Nixon; daughters, Julie (Ken) Boyd of Cascade and Jeanne (Tom) Schmid of Colorado Springs; brother, William F. Nixon of Grand Junction; and grandchildren, Jillian Keaveny, Adam Keaveny, Maddy Schmid and Erinn Schmid.

Visitation and services were held on Saturday, June 12, at Blunt Mortuary Chapel in Colorado Springs followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery.
