Birding classes for kids offered
Throughout Coastal Bend
      The University of Texas Marine Science Institute will offer introduction to birding classes for children. Birding 101 for Kids will be taught this summer to children ages seven to 16 years at various locations around the Coastal Bend.

Beach house tours benefit PAEF
Wednesdays through Sundays
      The Port Aransas Education Foundation will again be the beneficiary of tours of a coast home this summer. The Susan Castor Beach House will open to the public Wednesday, June 9. Admission will be $5 per person, with $4 going to the foundation.

Swim lessons scheduled
      Swim lessons will be held at the Port Aransas Community Park pool, 700 Clark Pkwy, off Ross Avenue, for children 6 months to 12 years. June lessons will be held Tuesday through Friday, June 15 to 25. Class times are 9:40 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Reading program opens Wednesday
     Keep your kids reading, and having fun doing so, this summer. The Bill Ellis Memorial Library Summer Reading program will begin Wednesday, June 9. Participants will meet Wednesday mornings, from 11 a.m. to noon, for eight weeks. The program is geared toward children ages four to nine. This years’ statewide theme is “Catch the Reading Express!”

Final events are scheduled at middle school, high school
      Even though today, Thursday, June 3, is the last day of the 2010-11 school year for the Port Aransas ISD, there are still a few events scheduled to honor PAISD students. Brundrett Middle School will present classroom awards in the school cafeteria, 100 S. Station St., during morning classes.

Art Center will conduct summer youth art camps
      Two Summer Youth Art Camps will be held at the Art Center for the Islands, 323 N. Alister St. Both sessions will be held Monday through Friday, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., and are geared for students entering third grade to those leaving the fifth grade.

Armanovs makes Tech president’s list
      Sarah Armanovs of Port Aransas has been named to the president’s list at Texas Tech University in Lubbock for the spring 2010 semester. She was a 2009 graduate of Port Aransas High School. Armanovs, the daughter of George and Susan Armanovs of Port Aransas, is majoring in architecture.

Community awards $126,000 in scholarships to 32 PAHS seniors
     The Port Aransas business community, as well as individuals, supported Port Aransas High School seniors by presenting scholarships at the annual assembly Friday, May 28. Also during the assembly, the valedictorian and salutatorian were presented, as were the recipients of the Jerry McDonald Citizenship Award.

Little League closing set
     Closing ceremonies for the Port Aransas Little League season will be held at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, June 3, at Port Aransas Community Park, 700 Clark Parkway. The Paul Mathews Sportsmanship Award will be presented to a boy and girl who were nominated for the honor based on sportsmanship values. It’s the most prestigious award the league offers.
