BMS Marlins take district

Among the blue ribbons: Seventh- and eighth-grade championship, seventh- and eighth-grade boys champions and eighthgrade girls champions.

Marian Smith was the eighth-grade girls singles champion; Savanah Ortiz and Vivian Frank defeated teammates Madison Goodgion and Shelby Stephenson for the girls doubles championship.

In eighth-grade mixed doubles, Paul Voyles and Kellie Owens came in second.

On the boys side, Jake Roberts and Andrew “Blake” Goodwin took the doubles championship while Chris Wright was second in singles.

Seventh-grader Hunter Roos defeated teammate Tyler Collier to take the boys singles championship while Collin Barr and Austin Scott defeated teammates Tyler Leonard and Ryan Zollars to win the boys doubles.

Summer Hernandez and Robert “Cody” Womack took third in seventh-grade mixed doubles.

Coach Larry DeWitt pointed out that the Brundrett Marlins won every close match and all but one tie-breaker. He called the players “very composed and focused.”

“This is a very coachable group,” DeWitt said. “They played smart and got their first serves in. They have a super attitude.”
