Charlotte gets best of Marlins; rain cancels other three games

Marlin baseballers lost three chances for games due to the rain brought on by the cold front early last week. Games scheduled against Medina, Sabinal and Junction were canceled.

In the one game the Marlin varsity played, they lost to Charlotte, 4-3. Coach Brian Flack said, “We just didn’t get it done at the plate with runners in scoring position.”

The Marlins left 14 men on base during the game.

“We played good defense, not great,” Flack said.

However, three errors by the Marlins, against only one for the Trojans, may also have contributed to the loss.

Though they only scored three runs, the Marlins didn’t lack for hits, getting 10 during the game. Kevin Sikes led Marlins hitters, getting three hits in four appearances at the plate. Andrew Groseclose went two for two, Zach Ainscough went two for three, anex Groseclose and Mac Owens each went one for three and Dillon Martin got one hit in four at-bats.

Andrew Groseclose pitched the first five innings, allowing two runs, neither of which was earned. The Trojans got two hits and four walks off him as he struck out four. Christian Collins finished up the game, allowing two runs with one earned. The Trojans got no hits and four walks from him, and he struck out one batter.
