Johnson returns, this time as interim principal
Students will have a familiar face around the halls of Port Aransas High School when they return from Spring Break. Wayne Johnson is the interim high school principal in Port Aransas, after Travis Longanecker resigned to take a job in the Panhandle. Longanecker’s last day was Friday, March 12.
Johnson is the former superintendent of the Aransas County Independent School District, (ACISD), which includes Rockport and Fulton. He was also interim superintendent at Port Aransas ISD between Billy Wiggins, who resigned in 2008 to take a job in Salado, and Dr. Sharon Doughty, who was hired as Port Aransas superintendent in January, 2009.
Doughty re-introduced Johnson to Port Aransas school trustees at their meeting on Thursday, March 11.
“He’s been out in the halls, not back in the office,” she told the board.
Johnson was employed for 18 years at ACISD. He held positions including middle school and high school assistant principal, high school principal and assistant superintendent. He served as superintendent for seven years until retiring in June, 2008.
No limit has been set for Johnson’s interim employment, though administrators are looking for a permanent replacement for Longanecker as the high school principal.
