Fate of the Karankawa to be discussed

The next Port Aransas Museum lecture series, on Monday, March 8, will address the fate of the Karankawa.

Dr. C. Herndon Williams, chair of the Refugio Historical Society, will discuss the Karankawa Indians in his talk, “Mary Armaro, The Last of the Karankawa: Where did they all go? Do you know?

The lecture will be held at the Port Aransas Museum, 408 Brundrett Ave., at Alister St.

A wine and cheese mixer at 7 p.m. will precede each lecture. The lectures will begin at 8 p.m. in the Port Aransas Community Center, adjacent to the museum.

The final lecture in the series will be on Monday, March 22. Dr. William McWhorter, historian in charge of the WWII Project for the Texas Historical Commission, will tell about the project and how it connects with the national effort to preserve the memories and stories of that era.

For more information call the museum at 749-3800.

The free, public lecture series is funded in part by a mini-grant of $1,398 recently awarded to the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Association by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
