BMS ladies split with Yorktown

The Brundrett Middle School seventhgrade Lady Marlins walked all over Yorktown, 25-6, on Thursday, Jan. 28, but the eighth-graders had a tougher time, squeezing out a 28-27 win.

The seventh-graders took charge early, racking up a 14-0 halftime lead. They then outscored Yorktown in the second half, 8-6, to post the win.

Summer Hernandez and Madison Ray shared scoring honors with 10 points apiece. Jamie Stokes rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

The eighth-grade girls got off to a slower start, trailing 8-0 at the end of the first quarter and 9-6 at the half. However, they came back from the halftime break fired up, and outscored Yorktown 13-3 in the third period to take a 19-12 lead going into the final period.

The last quarter almost doomed the Lady Marlins, as Yorktown put up 14 points against the eighth-graders’ 8, pulling to within one point before the horn sounded.

Savanna Ortiz hit 13 to lead the Lady Marlins in scoring followed by Vivian Frank with 6 and Kellie Owens with 4. Chase Hagedorn and Morgan Milligan each put in 2.
