Lady Marlins need to win Friday to seal district title
      Much depends on Friday. If the Lady Marlins lose that game, they’ll be co-champions of District 31-A. But if they win, they’ll be undisputed district champs and will draw a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The issue is that Friday’s game is against the Falls City Lady Beavers, and that presents three problems:

Lady Marlins post 47-27 victory over Woodsboro
      The Lady Marlins continued their winning ways on Friday, Jan. 29, with the varsity downing the Woodsboro Lady Eagles 47-25. Coach Stephanie Cowen credited the defense with the win, since the offense hasn’t been clicking for the last couple of games.

2nd, 3rd places won by BMS
      The Brundrett Middle School seventhgrade Lady Marlins took charge early in the Jan. 30 Faith Academy tournament in Victoria, coming in second in the tournament; the eighth-graders brought home the third-place trophy. The seventh-grade girls started strong in the first round and held the Goliad Tigerettes to 10 points, winning 27-10.

JV Ladies stop Woodsboro, 24-19
      The junior varsity Lady Marlins handled the Woodsboro Lady Eagles easily on the Woodsboro court on Friday, Jan. 29. After being edged in the first period, they came back to outscore Woodsboro 10-2 in the second quarter, taking a 16-9 lead into the locker room. Despite being outscored in the succeeding quarters, 3-2 and 7-6, the JV ladies went on to post the 24-19 win.

BMS ladies split with Yorktown
      The Brundrett Middle School seventhgrade Lady Marlins walked all over Yorktown, 25-6, on Thursday, Jan. 28, but the eighth-graders had a tougher time, squeezing out a 28-27 win. The seventh-graders took charge early, racking up a 14-0 halftime lead. They then outscored Yorktown in the second half, 8-6, to post the win.

Marlins miss by 2 against Pettus
Ready for a rematch on Feb. 12
      Shooting for a chance at second place in District 31-1A, the Marlins came within two points of taking down a strong Pettus team on Tuesday, Jan. 26. The Marlins missed a last-second shot that would have forced an overtime, losing the game 64-62.

BMS Marlin squads romp past Yorktown
      The Brundrett Middle School eighthgrade boys sent a message to Yorktown on Thursday, Jan. 28 – don’t mess with us. The BMS Marlins won that game, 47-40. “The Marlins used a balanced scoring attack in each quarter,” coach Brian Flack reported. “They shut down Yorktown in the third quarter, allowing only 4 points.”

Marlins swamp Eagles
70-50 at home
      The Marlins used a two-platoon system that proved effective as they romped past the Woodsboro Eagles 70-50 in a game at Woodsboro on Friday, Jan. 29. The Eagles took a first-period lead, 17- 15, but the Marlins came back to outscore them by 10 points in the second quarter and took a 35-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
