Hearts for the Arts bidding opens Friday
Bidding opens tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 30, in the annual Hearts for the Arts silent auction and exhibit at the Art Center for the Islands. It will be the theme of the First Friday reception on Feb. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the art center, 323 N. Alister St.
“Hearts for the Arts,” an annual exhibit and silent auction of works with a Valentine theme, is a fundraiser for the art center.
Works featured in the auction are donated to the center by various member artists.
The public is invited to First Friday to enjoy the exhibit, place bids, hear live music and enjoy refreshments and socializing.
Silent auction items will be on display and available for bidding through Friday, Feb. 13.
The International Crane Foundation Children’s Crane-Bird of Peace-World Art Exhibit will be on display at the art center Feb. 15 - 28.
The International Crane Foundation is the world center for the study and preservation of cranes. For the past several years the center has hosted the Children’s International Art Exchange ”Crane-Bird of Peace.”
This is a traveling exhibit with art by young children from several different countries: China, Vietnam, Netherlands, Sweden, the U.S., Russia, Nepal and more.
“The children do a wonderful job of depicting the cranes in their country’s surroundings,” according to art center director Mary Rose.
The crane exhibit runs through February so that it coincides with the Celebration of the Whooping Cranes and Other Birds later in the month.
Loyd Neal is the February sponsor for the art center.
