JV ladies snag second in tourney

With big win over Pettus

In the first round, the ladies opened against the Taft Lady Greyhounds, taking a 15-12 lead into the locker room. However, they weren’t able to hold onto the lead, being outscored 4-14 in the third period and ending up on the low end of the 28-35 final score.

Anna Roberson and Jessica Borden shared scoring honors with 9 apiece, followed by Samantha Richardson with 6 and Jenna Socha with 4.

In the second round, the girls went up against the Pettus Lady Eagles for tournament second place, leading throughout the game to end up ahead

29-15 at the final.

The Lady Marlins outscored their opponents in three of the four quarters and were only beaten 8-9 in the second period. They took a 14-12 lead into the locker room at halftime and held the Lady Eagles scoreless in the last quarter.

Roberson was again the leading scorer, hitting 21 points. Richardson, Socha, Brenna Martin and Megan Forrest each put in 2 points to round out the rest of the scoring.

“We are becoming more aggressive on both ends of the floor,” coach Stephanie Cowen noted. “The girls have started to make steals and attack the rim. We are very proud of these kids. They are working so hard at improving their skills, and were rewarded by placing second in the tournament.” Taft ended up as the tourney winner with Pettus in third place. The junior varsity girls now have a 1-11 record on the season.
