Runners tackle heat, humidity in first meet
The opening meet for Brundrett Middle School’s cross-country team was a tough one.
At West Guth Park in Corpus Christi, the runners slogged through heat and humidity on Thursday, Sept. 17.
It’s considered one of the toughest courses to run, but it may be the course the runners will face at the district meet, according to Coach Javier Mendoza, “so it was good that we ran there,” he said.
The team will host the Port Aransas meet on the beach between Markers 8 and 18 and ending at the high school on Saturday, Sept. 26. Races for the high school start at 8 a.m., and the middle school races are expected to begin at 10 a.m. with the seventh grade boys and girls followed by the eighth grade boys and girls.
Thursday’s meet, hosted by Corpus Christi’s Carroll High School, was an invitational for middle and high school cross-country teams. The format put seventh grade boys and girls together, with at least 100 runners in each division.
