Girl Scout leaders and helpers needed Port Aransas Girl Scouts are getting organized and preparing a new year of programs. Adults are needed to provide leadership and guidance to girls as they progress through the program levels and develop courage, confidence and leadership skills. Adult volunteer opportunities include troop leaders, co-leaders or assistant leaders, cookie managers, camping specialists, program providers (which may be on a one-time basis), help for a few meetings or simply a specific program while another adult provides the supervision and structural support. Girl Scouts is a volunteer organization that seeks to help girls grow into vital, productive citizens. Age level programs offered include Daisies, in kindergarten and first grade; Brownies in second and third grades; Juniors in fourth and fifth grades; Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors, which include all girls in sixth through 12th grades. Any resident or part-time resident of Port Aransas who has been a Girl Scout or served as a leader, or is simply interested in helping girls grow into strong, confident adults, is welcome to help in any capacity in any of the age levels. Background checks are required of any adult participating in more than a few meetings to ensure safety of the girls and integrity in the Girl Scouts program. Meetings are scheduled by troop leaders and may be held at the Girl Scout Hut at 739 W. Ave. A, or at any other suitable location. The Girl Scouts of the USA will provide all training required or requested, as well as local support for programs and activities. For more information or to volunteer call Lu Ann Ferguson at 749-5141. |
