FISHING REPORT
Is fall on the horizon?
      The season is changing, and so is the fishing. Fewer wahoo, ling and dorado were caught this week and there are just the tiniest hints that the tuna may be moving a little closer to shore. An early fall may be in order. We could use some rain, some cooler weather, some flounder and tuna.

Sharks and kings
      Fishing aboard the Wrecklamation, Capt. Mike Nugent, above, and Scott Graves from Offshore Adventures, below, caught a 115- pound spinner shark, a 70-pound black tip shark, releasing several more, and kingfish. The black tip was caught on 20-pound test line with Nugent on the rod.

A good day’s work
      These folks from Eco-Systems of San Antonio caught ling, dog snapper, Atlantic sharpnose shark, jack crevalle and a limit of kingfish on Saturday, Sept. 5. They fished a private charter aboard the Pelican with Capt. Marvin Horner out of Deep Sea Headquarters.

Kids a’fishin’
      The Garza brothers from San Antonio and Taylor Vaughan from Aransas Pass caught kingfish and vermilion snapper fishing with Capt. Ronnie Hale aboard the Scat Cat out of Fisherman’s Wharf on Saturday, Sept. 5.

Grand slam at last!
      Capts. Bruce Horn of Tulsa, Okla., and Matt Sherwood of Port Aransas finally completed a grand slam on Friday Sept. 4, by releasing this white marlin near the dumping grounds aboard the Carpe Diem. Horn has been working on the grand slam for 10 years, ever since he released a blue marlin at Southern.

Swordfish for dinner, boys!
      J.R. Douglas of Port Aransas caught this 275-pound, 127-inch swordfish on Sunday, Sept. 6. Douglas fought the fish (his first swordfish) for an hour and a half on a 130-class reel. Two cuties and a snapper
      Lilly Nixon, 15 months old, with Madison, left, who belongs to Lilly’s cousin, Savanna Nixon, shows a 5 to 6–pound mangrove snapper caught by Mark Nixon. They were fishing off the Polly Anna at the municipal harbor dock on Saturday, Sept. 5. Lilly is the daughter of Mark and Kissa Nixon and the granddaughter of John and Molly Nixon, all of Port Aransas.
