Wing-Ding aims to raise funds for Helping Hands Food Pantry
Let your culinary talent take flight in a chicken wing competition while benefiting the Port Aransas Helping Hands Food Pantry.
Lug Nutz Car Care and the Gaff have joined up to sponsor the first annual Wing-Ding, a chicken wing cook-off on Saturday, Sept. 5, beginning at noon. The two adjacent businesses are on Beach Street, east of Station Street and will hold the event in their parking lots.
All proceeds and donations from the event will go to the Port Aransas Helping Hands Food Pantry, operated by the Community Presbyterian Church in Port Aransas. The pantry is a satellite of the Corpus Christi Food Bank providing perishable and nonperishable foods, personal care items, school supplies and diapers to anyone in need in Port Aransas.
Festivities accompanying the cook-off will include live music, games, prizes, and, of course, the chicken dance.
Competing teams will cook on-site, and prizes will be awarded for booth decorating and the tastiest wings. The entry fee is $10 per wing style.
Teams may sell merchandise, distribute literature and display collection jars for donations to their organizations at their booths, but all food-sampling donations and entry fees will be donated to the food pantry.
The entry fee for those attending the Wing-Ding is $3 or two non-perishable food items or school supplies per person.
For more information or to enter the competition call George “Kip” Shannon at the Gaff, 749-5970 or Sandy or Shawn Etheridge at Lug Nutz, 749-3311.
