High school is all a-twitter
Keeping in touch is a priority at Port Aransas High School, so Principal Travis Longanecker is going to include one-way communication via Twitter this year.
“Parents, students and community members will all be able to get real-time updates” about the high school by going to the Web site, www.twitter.com/pahsmarlins, Longanecker said.
He envisions using the Web site to notify the community of emergency announcements, last-minute announcements and updates, sports/extracurricular scores and results, event announcements and schedule changes, assignment or exam date announcements and a variety of other information related to classroom activities.
Longanecker said he plans to put Twitter links on all outgoing media “so parents know they can sign up for updates. I am really hoping to get good participation.”
Twitter is one of many forms of what is known as “social media” used by technology-savvy folks to share news online.
“This is part of our vision to provide as much information as possible to our constituents,” Longanecker said.
