      Port Aransas Boy Scout Troop 29 scouts gather in front of camp headquarters at Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch in the Davis Mountains. It’s the law: No shots, no school!
      Students will return to classes on Monday, Aug. 24, so it is getting late to make an appointment to update immunizations for the 2009-10 school year. Some changes have been made that will affect many children, especially those entering kindergarten or seventh grade. A new state law mandates that students must have the new immunizations to enter school.

Troop 29 is home from camp
      Port Aransas Boy Scouts Troop 29 returned home on Saturday, Aug. 1, after spending six days and nights at Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch, deep in the Davis Mountains of West Texas. The camp, more than 500 miles from Port Aransas, is situated in a small canyon at an elevation of 4,500 feet amid 1000- foot-plus peaks.

Kids’ melodrama fills PACT stage with lots of laughs
      Some kids in Port Aransas have been hard at work on a new play during their summer vacation. Performances of the Port Aransas Community Theater’s summer youth production, “Shoot-out at Darby Wells,” an original melodrama, written by Nevada Linford of Corpus Christi, will continue this weekend.

New student orientation is slated at middle school
      “Moving Up to Brundrett Middle School,” an orientation for incoming sixth graders and any students new to Brundrett Middle School, is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. New incoming students and their parents are encouraged to attend the orientation at the school, at the corner of Ave. B and 10th St.

Registration is Wednesday for students new to district
      Port Aransas ISD will register all new students on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 -3 p.m. Parents should register students at the office of the school they will attend. Pre-kindergarten through fifth grade attend H.G. Olsen Elementary School, 100 S. Station St., just south of the administration building.
