Performances of poetry, music on the agenda for Friday night

A little poetry, a little music and lots of fun are to found at the Sand Slam tomorrow, Friday, July 24, the Tarpon Ice House, 321 N. Alister St.

Presenting poets must sign up by 7:30 p.m., and the performance starts at 8 p.m.

Competing poets must bring at least three selections of their own writing, as three rounds are held before declaring a winner.

The evening will begin with an open microphone, available for poetry not original to the presenter. It will then progress to the competition.

Performances are limited to three minutes.

The monthly event is open to of all types of poetry, but will be kept familyfriendly as teens are encouraged to attend and compete.

Musical accompaniment is allowed.

The event is free, but donations are being accepted to help with expenses and prize money.

The slams, held by the City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department on the fourth Friday of each month, are open to the public.
