Two down, one more may go
      It’s been an interesting few weeks in presidential politics. Yes, even though the ink is barely dry on the swearing in of Democrat Barack Obama as President, the jousting was under way for the Republican nomination to challenge his re-election in 2012. Among candidates mentioned were U.S. Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanders, and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Scratch Ensign and Sanford. Ensign on June 16 fessed up to an affair with a former staff member.

Letters to the editor: Too good to waste
      If you’ve written a letter to the editor and you haven’t seen it in the paper, it’s not because I didn’t like what you had to say. My opinion of your opinion doesn’t mean diddlysquat when it comes to deciding what is published and what isn’t. That’s just not part of the criteria for publishing letters to the editor.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
      Lead by example I watched the video of the last council meeting (www.portasouthjetty.com, Video Index). Words cannot express my disappointment in our mayor. Even mayors are not exempt from rules that govern all of us - such as how to conduct themselves in public meetings. That display was not what we would expect from our city leader; he should lead by example, not force.
