He was born Feb. 10, 1944, in Baltimore, Md., to Wallace Daniel and Delores Tanner, and later moved to Colorado, where he attended school.
Tanner served in the United States Army during the 1960s, then moved to Port Aransas, where he was employed on a shrimp boat. He later became captain of a crew boat.
In 1970 he married Vonnie (Dorris) Tanner of Port Aransas.
Tanner was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Wayne Tanner.
He is survived by his mother, who resides in Salida, Colo.; a brother, Kenneth (Lucille) Tanner of Penrose, Colo.; a sister, Robin (Larry) Martinez of Salida Colo.; a son, James Ray (Stacy) Tanner of Aransas Pass and a grandson, Talan Tanner of Aransas Pass.
A private service will be held at a later date.
