PAST to swim laps for money
      If someone knocks on your door wearing fins and goggles, don’t panic. It’s probably not the Creature from the Black Lagoon. It may be a member of the Port Aransas Swim Team asking for Swim-a-Thon pledges. Swim team members will swim laps at the Swim-a-Thon to raise funds for the team. Donors may pledge any amount per lap swum or donate a one-time set amount. Funds raised are used to offset the cost of equipment such as computers and soft ware, office supplies, trophies, swimsuits and kick boards.

Sales tax holiday to include school supplies
      Great news for back-to-school shoppers. For the first time since it began in 1999, the annual August sales tax holiday will include most school supplies. “A lot of families look forward to saving their hard-earned money during the sales tax holiday weekend,” Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said. “Now they can make their back-to-school budgets stretch even further because more than two dozen school supply items will be tax-free.”

Last chance for swim lessons
      Register for the final session of summer swim lessons at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14. The two-week sessions will be taught at 9:40 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, July 21 - 31. Registration and lessons will be held at the Port Aransas Community Park pool, 700 Clark Pkwy. The fee for Port Aransas residents is $6 for first child, $5 for second child and $4 for the third, with a maximum fee of $15 per family. Non-residents will pay $12 for first child, $10 for second child and $8 for the third, with a maximum fee of $30 per family.
