Price hike unjustified

The recent 15 percent increase in natural gas prices by the City of Port Aransas utilities appears out of line. The city is paying less for natural gas today than they were in 2006, when prices were last raised.

In spite of the generally increasing costs for energy, natural gas prices are plummeting. The call for an increase by the city, in the face of falling prices, can’t be justified. It would seem more appropriate for the city to lock in long-term contracts for the benefit of its customers, than to raise prices.
